Long distance femdom: keeping a D/s dynamic alive apart
Dominant women live now
See allLong distance femdom is a female-led dynamic kept alive across distance: messages, calls, video, tasks, rituals and, for some couples, app-linked toys. Wikipedia notes that dominance and submission can be sexual or non-sexual, long- or short-term, intimate or anonymous, and distance changes the tools rather than the dynamic. Many submissives live this way by necessity; others meet their dominant online and never live anywhere near her. This page covers what research says about relationships apart, how to build rituals and tasks that work remotely, the privacy problems of connected toys, and how to avoid the sextortion that targets online intimacy.
Can long distance femdom work?
The research on long-distance couples is more encouraging than its reputation. A nationally representative 2013 study of 870 people found long-distance partners reported higher relationship quality than those living close, although they were just as likely to have broken up by the follow-up. A 2015 study comparing 717 people in long-distance relationships with 425 living nearby found few differences, and concluded long-distance partners are not at a disadvantage. A 2026 review of 14 studies added a useful nuance: shared, technology-mediated practices helped maintain intimacy, while excessive solitary use undermined it. Technology helps when it's done together.
Nobody has studied D/s couples apart specifically. But femdom has an advantage most long-distance couples lack: built-in structure. Rules, rituals and tasks keep a dynamic present every day, wherever both people happen to be.
What an online submissive is
An online submissive is simply a submissive whose submission happens mainly online. That covers two quite different situations. One is a couple who know each other well and are temporarily or permanently apart. The other is a submissive who serves a dominant woman he met online, sometimes without ever meeting in person. The second can be deeply rewarding and is also where most scams live, so read our guides to online mistresses and findom scams before trusting anyone you haven't verified.
Rituals that work at a distance
- Bookend the day. A morning message and an evening report make the dynamic part of daily life.
- A closing phrase. Couples in one study of full-time dynamics ended every phone call with a set phrase of belonging. It costs nothing and means a lot.
- Scheduled video sessions. A fixed evening when she's in charge, live, gives the week a shape.
- A weekly check-in. The Gottman Institute's weekly meeting for couples opens with five appreciations, tackles one issue, and ends by asking what each partner can do next week to make the other feel more loved. It adapts perfectly to D/s.

Tasks and proof
Tasks are the backbone of most long distance dynamics: chores, exercise, a journal entry, a skill to learn, each with a deadline and a report. Our guide to femdom tasks has a list. Keep proof non-intimate wherever possible: a photo of the clean kitchen, not of you. Research on married couples found 29% had sent each other sexy messages and 12% nude or nearly nude photos, and that explicit pictures were associated with more ambivalence about the relationship. Words often carry the dynamic better than images, and they're far safer.
Chastity keyholding works remotely too, with a timed lockbox or an app holding the key; our keyholder guide explains how, and why a physical emergency release matters.
Connected toys and their privacy failures
Remote-controlled toys have a long history; the writer Ted Nelson coined the word teledildonics in 1975. They can make distance feel smaller, but their security record is poor. The maker of We-Vibe settled a lawsuit over app data collection for about US$3.2 million in 2017. The same year, an app from Lovense was found saving audio recordings, which the company called a minor software bug. In 2020, security researchers found the Cellmate app-controlled chastity device leaked users' exact locations and could be locked remotely with no physical way to open it, and in 2021 an attacker demanded a ransom from users. Choose devices with a manual override, keep apps updated, read the privacy settings, and never wear anything you can't remove yourself if the app fails.
Sextortion: the risk behind the screen
Online intimacy attracts criminals. The FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center received more than 75,000 sextortion reports in 2025, with people in their twenties filing 22,061 of them and people over 60 losing nearly $15 million. The FBI notes contact usually starts on dating sites or apps and then moves to another messaging platform, and advises turning off devices and webcams when not in use. Remember too that anyone on a video call can record it without your knowledge.
If someone threatens you, the UK National Crime Agency's advice is to stop all communication, and it warns there's no guarantee paying will stop the threats. Report it to the police on 101, or 999 in an emergency, or to the FBI at ic3.gov in the US. StopNCII can help stop intimate images being shared on major platforms, and the law is on your side: sharing or threatening to share intimate images without consent is a crime in England and Wales, and US platforms must now remove reported images within 48 hours.
Safety rules for remote play
- No self-bondage. Wikipedia puts it plainly: when you're alone, there's no one to effect a rescue.
- No breath play of any kind, remote or otherwise.
- Agree limits before tasks, not during them.
- Share nothing identifying with anyone you haven't verified.
- Tell her when a task or rule stops working; distance makes it easier to suffer in silence.
Long distance femdom on cam
For an online submissive without a partner, a cam site is the safest version of all: the performer is verified, payment stays inside the platform, and sessions end when you choose. The strip at the top of this page shows dominant women live now.
Quick answers
What is long distance femdom?
A female-led dominance and submission dynamic kept alive across distance, through messages, calls, video, tasks, rituals and sometimes app-linked devices, between partners who can't be together in person.
What is an online submissive?
There's no formal definition, but in practice it means a submissive whose submission happens mainly online: with a partner who lives far away, or with a dominant woman met and served online.
Can a D/s relationship work long distance?
Research on long-distance couples in general is encouraging: they report relationship quality as high as couples who live close, or higher. Nobody has studied D/s couples apart specifically, but structure and rituals clearly help.
How do you keep a long distance femdom dynamic going?
Rituals and tasks: a morning message, an evening report, a set phrase to end calls, assignments with non-intimate proof, scheduled video sessions and a regular check-in about how the dynamic feels.
Are remote-controlled toys safe?
Physically, mostly, but privacy is a real risk. Connected sex toys have leaked data and recordings, and one app-controlled chastity device could be locked remotely by attackers. Choose devices with a manual override and strong privacy settings.
What should I do if someone threatens to share my images?
Stop all contact, don't pay, keep the evidence and report it: to the police on 101 in the UK or the FBI's IC3 in the US. Services such as StopNCII can help block images being shared on major platforms.
Can you be in a femdom relationship online only?
Yes, many people are, with a dominant woman they met online and may never meet in person. It can be rewarding, but it's also where most scams happen, so verify who you're dealing with and never send money or images under pressure.
How often should a long distance dom and sub talk?
As often as suits both of you, and regularly enough to feel like a dynamic rather than an occasional chat. Many couples combine short daily messages with a longer weekly call or video session.
What apps do long distance femdom couples use?
Ordinary messaging and video apps for most of it, plus task and ritual apps built for D/s couples, and sometimes app-controlled toys or lockboxes. Check each app's privacy settings before trusting it with anything personal.
