Femdom tasks: tasks for a sub, and sub journal prompts
Strict mistresses live now
See allFemdom tasks are agreed jobs a dominant woman sets for her submissive, carried out to please her. As the sex educator Gigi Engle put it in Men's Health, that could mean cleaning, laying out her clothes for a date or giving her a foot rub. Tasks turn submission into something practical, and for many service-minded subs they're the best part of the dynamic. This page covers the kinds of tasks that work, a list of ideas, the sub journal and the prompts research actually supports, how to set and check tasks, and how to keep proof private.
What femdom tasks are
A task is a single assignment: something to do, a deadline, and a report. That makes it different from a rule, which is a standing instruction; our page on femdom rules covers those. Tasks are where service submission, which the BDSM glossary defines as enjoying performing a service in a sexual or BDSM setting, becomes concrete.
They're also how many dynamics stay alive day to day. A 2006 study of 146 people in master and slave relationships found the roles were maintained through ordinary things: household chores, money management, and morning or evening routines. And tasks often draw on real abilities; in a 2016 survey of 935 BDSM practitioners, 90.8% said their play involved using personal skills most of the time or nearly always.
Tasks for a sub
Good tasks are specific, achievable and genuinely useful or pleasing to her. Ideas by type:
- Service. Clean one room to her standard. Polish her boots. Cook her favourite meal. Run her bath. Lay out her clothes. Handle the chore she hates most.
- Care. A foot rub at the end of her day. Her coffee, exactly as she likes it, without being asked.
- Self-improvement. Read a chapter of a book she chooses and send her notes. Practise a language for 15 minutes. Learn a recipe or a massage technique.
- Fitness. A walk, a run or a workout. The NHS recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate activity a week, plus strength exercises on two days.
- Ritual. Write her a gratitude list. Wear an agreed item all day. Kneel for five minutes before bed and reflect.
- Creative. Write her a letter. Make her a playlist. Plan a date she doesn't have to organise.
Avoid tasks that are dangerous, humiliating in public, expensive beyond an agreed budget, or impossible to complete. A task the sub can't succeed at isn't a challenge; it's a setup.

The sub journal
A sub journal is a diary written for the dominant to read. Mistress Kye, quoted in Men's Health, called a kinky diary an effective tool that gives submissives space to organise their thoughts, knowing the dominant will read through loving eyes, and suggested a regular connection date to talk it over. It's also the easiest way for a mistress to learn what her sub actually feels, rather than what he says in the moment.
The research behind writing is older and more modest than the hype. In a famous 1986 study, 46 students wrote about traumatic events or trivial topics for four days; those who wrote about trauma felt worse straight afterwards but visited the health centre less over the following six months. The usual dose in this research is 15 to 20 minutes on three to five occasions. Effects are small on average, and a 2012 trial found even neutral writing helped. But one finding is directly relevant: in a 2006 study of 86 dating couples, people who wrote about their deepest thoughts and feelings about the relationship were significantly more likely to still be together three months later.
Sub journal prompts
- Three things you're grateful for about her today. Gratitude listing reliably lifted positive mood in a 2003 study.
- Your deepest thoughts and feelings about the relationship this week.
- The moment you felt most submissive this week, and why.
- A task you did: what went well, and what you'd do better.
- A rule that felt easy, and one that felt heavy.
- A disagreement you had, retold as a neutral observer who wants the best for you both. A 2013 study of 120 couples found a 21-minute exercise in seeing conflict this way stopped a decline in marital quality.
- Something you'd like to try, and something you're unsure about.
- Something you'd like her to know but find hard to say out loud.
- How you slept, ate and moved this week.
Keep painful prompts optional. Writing about difficult experiences can raise distress in the short term, and a journal for a dynamic should never become an obligation to relive things you'd rather not.
Setting tasks well
The best tasks are clear about what, by when and how she'll know. Give one at a time at first. Make the report part of the task: a message, a photo of the result, a journal entry. And keep the load sensible; researchers Casey and Sagarin list exhaustion and rigidity among the real costs of authority dynamics, and that applies to the dominant setting tasks as much as the sub doing them.
Don't panic about a missed task, either. The popular idea that a habit takes 21 days isn't supported by evidence: a 2010 study of 96 volunteers found habits took anywhere from 18 to 254 days to become automatic, and that missing one opportunity didn't materially affect the process. A consequence for a missed task should be agreed beforehand and light; see femdom punishment ideas.
Proof, apps and privacy
Many couples use photo proof, and apps have grown up around tasks: some offer task lists, rituals, check-ins and photo proof for D/s couples. Read their privacy policies before trusting them with anything personal. Keep proof non-intimate: a clean kitchen, a finished page, a timer. In England and Wales, sharing or threatening to share an intimate photo of someone without consent has been a specific offence since January 2024, and a blackmailer is the last person you want holding such a picture.
Reporting has limits too. UK Home Office guidance lists making someone account for their time, and checking their phone or demanding passwords, as controlling behaviour. Reports in a healthy dynamic are agreed, limited and enjoyable, not surveillance.
Tasks from a cam mistress
Tasks are one of the best ways to keep an online dynamic going between sessions. A cam mistress sets the assignment, you report back at your next session, and she raises or lowers the bar as she learns what suits you. Never pay anyone to set tasks outside a regulated platform, and never send identifying or intimate material. The strip at the top of this page shows strict mistresses live now; our page on chastity training covers tasks for locked subs, and FLR ideas has more for couples.
Quick answers
What are femdom tasks?
Agreed jobs a dominant woman sets for her submissive, done to please her: cleaning, cooking, laying out her clothes, learning something, writing for her. Unlike standing rules, a task is a single assignment with a deadline and a report.
What are good tasks for a sub?
Ones that are specific, achievable and useful to her: a room cleaned to her standard, her boots polished, a meal cooked, a chapter read and summarised, a workout done. Start with one at a time.
What is a sub journal?
A diary the submissive writes for his dominant to read: how tasks went, what he felt, what he's grateful for, what he wants to try. Many couples set a regular time to read and discuss it together.
What are good sub journal prompts?
Three things you're grateful for about her today; your deepest thoughts and feelings about the relationship this week; the moment you felt most submissive and why; a rule that felt easy and one that felt heavy.
What happens if a sub misses a task?
Whatever was agreed in advance, ideally something light. One miss isn't a disaster: a study of habit formation found missing a single day didn't materially affect how habits form.
Should tasks include photo proof?
Only non-intimate proof, like a photo of a clean kitchen or a finished page. Never send intimate images as proof; in England and Wales sharing or threatening to share an intimate image without consent is a crime.
