Locktober: what it is and how to do it

Locktober is a chastity challenge. You lock up on 1 October, the device stays on until the 31st, and for the whole month the key belongs to someone else: a partner, a mistress, or a timer you can't argue with. The name is simply lock plus October. If you've seen the word on TikTok attached to gym videos, that's a newer, second meaning, and we'll get to it.

Where Locktober came from

Nobody owns it, and nobody is sure who said it first. When Slate's David Mack traced its history in October 2024, the earliest use chastity websites could point to was a 2015 post on a forum about orgasm denial, on a site that no longer exists. Urban Dictionary didn't get a definition until 2018.

It has grown every year since. Mack found a spike in searches every October from 2016 onwards, with 2024 close to double any earlier year. A Locktober subreddit set up in 2019 had 23,000 members by then, and a broader chastity community on Reddit had 327,000.

Our own look at Google Trends in early October 2026 showed the same pattern. The most common question attached to the word is plain "what is Locktober", and searches for "Locktober 2026" were climbing fast in the first days of the month.

The other Locktober

In late September 2024 a TikTok user started posting about locking in for October: the gym every day, clean eating, no excuses until the year is out. Know Your Meme credits the account @co1inwiw, and the self-improvement version spread fast among men who had no idea what the word already meant.

The collision did the original a favour. A lot of people learned about chastity Locktober from the replies under their own workout videos. So if a friend says they're doing Locktober this year, ask which kind before you offer to hold anything.

The usual rules

There's no official rulebook, which is half the appeal. Most people play some version of this:

• Locked from 1 October to the end of the 31st. Some start the night before so the first morning already counts.
• Someone else controls the key. A partner keeps it, an online keyholder decides, or it goes into a timed lockbox. Apps such as Chaster keep a lockbox combination hidden from you until a timer runs out, and can put a keyholder in charge of that timer.
• Hygiene breaks are short and reported. Cleaning is the usual exception, and many keyholders want a message before and after.
• An emergency key always exists. It sits sealed somewhere you can reach in a hurry, and any use gets confessed.
• No orgasm unless your keyholder says otherwise. What counts, and whether one is ever granted, is agreed before the 1st and is entirely the keyholder's call.

A 31-day Locktober plan

Searches for a "Locktober calendar" and "Locktober tasks" climb every October, because a month is long and locked days blur together. Tasks give it a shape. Here's a week-by-week plan to hand your keyholder, or to run yourself with a timer.

• Days 1 to 7, settling in. One check-in a day at a fixed time, a line on how you slept, nothing more. This week is about getting used to the device, not about performing.
• Days 8 to 14, service. Add one task a day: a chore done properly, a page of lines, three things you'll do for her tomorrow. Small and checkable beats big and occasional.
• Days 15 to 21, temptation. Now she tests you. A tease session on cam, an order to watch her room for ten minutes and leave without spending a credit, a message at an awkward hour. The key stays exactly where it is.
• Days 22 to 31, her decision. She tells you how the month ends, or keeps you guessing: release on the 31st, an extension into November, or one last test on Halloween night.

Steal from the other Locktober while you're at it. A workout a day is a perfectly good task, and plenty of keyholders like a sub who comes out of October fitter than he went in.

Locktober with a cam mistress

You can't pass a key through a webcam, so cam Locktober runs on timers, trust and check-ins. The simplest version: the key goes into a timed lockbox or an app, and your mistress gets a daily report in her room. Some subs book a short private once a week for orders and a progress report. Others tip into free chat with their check-in line and wait to be noticed, which is its own small torment.

Pick someone who enjoys the game. On 5 October 2026 just one dominant performer in our list named chastity among her specialities, but 27 listed JOI, and tease and denial sits right next to it. Then set a budget. The most common private rate in our list on 5 October was 2.49 credits a minute, so four weekly ten-minute privates come to just under 100 credits, before tips. Decide the number before the 1st. A locked sub is a poor judge of value at 11pm on day 19.

Safety before the game

A month is a long time to wear anything. Most of the risk is dull and avoidable:

• Fit matters more than looks. A device that pinches or chafes on day one will be far worse on day ten.
• Take it off straight away for numbness, sharp pain, swelling or skin that changes colour. That's what the emergency key is for, and no keyholder worth having will argue.
• A numbered plastic seal on the key box shows whether it has been opened without making it slow to open.
• Clean every day and dry properly. Skin trouble is the most boring way to end Locktober early.
• Many wearers find nights the hardest part at first, so expect a few broken nights of sleep.

If you've never worn a device for more than a weekend, don't start with 31 days. People inside the scene warn that a full month can be too much for newcomers, as Wikipedia's Locktober article notes. Try a long weekend, then a week, and make next October the big one. None of this is medical advice.
