Femdom hypnosis is erotic hypnosis with a dominant woman as the hypnotist: her voice guides a submissive into a relaxed, deeply focused state, and suggestion becomes part of the power dynamic. Wikipedia defines erotic hypnosis as a broad term for erotic activities involving hypnosis, often practised in BDSM relationships and communities, and fans call it hypnokink. It's intimate, intense and widely misunderstood. This page explains what hypnosis is and isn't, who responds to it, how consent works when one person is in trance, the world of recorded hypno files, and who should avoid it.

What erotic hypnosis involves

A session usually starts with an induction: slow breathing, a calm, repetitive voice, perhaps counting down or focusing on a single image. Once the listener is relaxed and absorbed, the hypnotist offers suggestions, which might be feelings of warmth or heaviness, a deepening sense of obedience, or a trigger word that brings the feeling back later. In femdom, the content is about her: her voice, her control, his surrender. It can happen in person, over a call or on cam, or through recorded audio files.

Sessions vary hugely in tone. Some are almost entirely relaxing, closer to a guided meditation with a dominant edge. Others are playful, built around a single trigger word that makes the listener giggle, blush or kneel. Others again lean into the fantasy of being reprogrammed, which is where negotiation matters most. A good hypnotist asks which kind you want before she starts.

Much of the pleasure comes from the sense of being guided somewhere you couldn't go alone. For a submissive who finds it hard to switch off, a dominant woman's voice doing the switching is the whole appeal.

What hypnosis is, and isn't

The American Psychological Association's hypnosis division defines hypnosis as a state of consciousness involving focused attention and reduced peripheral awareness, with an enhanced capacity to respond to suggestion. The Cleveland Clinic is blunt about what it isn't: hypnosis isn't mind control or brainwashing. Stage shows give the opposite impression, and one study found watching a stage show increased people's belief that hypnotised subjects act on suggestions automatically.

The truth is subtler. A 1995 study found people genuinely experienced their hypnotic responses as involuntary, and that their reports of this were truthful. So hypnosis doesn't override someone's will, but it can feel as though things are happening to you rather than being done by you. That feeling is exactly what makes it erotic, and exactly why consent has to be settled before anyone goes under.

A brief history

The story begins with Franz Mesmer, who published his theory of animal magnetism in 1779; a royal commission in 1784 found no evidence for his magnetic fluid and credited the effects to imagination. The Scottish surgeon James Braid saw a mesmerism show in November 1841 and published Neurypnology in 1843, putting the study of trance on a more scientific footing. The erotic side was noticed early too: in 1957 one writer observed that to many hypnotic subjects, hypnosis has strong sexual connotations.

Who responds to hypnosis

Not everyone, and not equally. Stanford Medicine noted in 2016 that only about 10% of people are generally classed as highly hypnotisable; in its study, just 36 of 545 people screened scored high. Most people fall in the middle, and around 10% respond very little. It's also a stable trait: one study found hypnotisability scores correlated strongly when the same people were retested 25 years later. If you don't drop into a deep trance, nothing is wrong with you or the hypnotist. Many people enjoy erotic hypnosis as a richly guided fantasy, and the dynamic works either way.

Consent is the central issue. The psychologist Mark Griffiths has pointed out that agreeing to be hypnotised doesn't necessarily mean fully consenting to sexual acts while in trance. The hypnokink group of The Eulenspiegel Society, a long-running BDSM organisation, practises risk-aware consensual kink with explicit negotiation, and one linguist interviewed by BuzzFeed News described a hypnotist as borrowing mental power that is given to them, for a specified period of time.

In England and Wales, the law defines consent as agreeing by choice with the freedom and capacity to make that choice, so agreements made beforehand, clearly and soberly, matter.

Hypno files and compulsive use

Recorded hypnosis files are hugely popular. Wikipedia reports that Reddit's main erotic hypnosis community has more than 179,000 members, and BuzzFeed News reported in 2023 that the community around one famous series of files had more than 20,000. Some users there described feeling addicted. There's no research on hypno files specifically; the only peer-reviewed study in this area looked at 16 viewers of the related sissy hypno genre, covered on our sissy hypno page. For context, a 2023 study of 82,243 people found 4.8% were at high risk of compulsive sexual behaviour disorder. If listening feels out of control, take a break and talk to a professional.

Who should avoid it

The NHS says hypnotherapy may not be safe for people with schizophrenia, a history of psychosis, or epilepsy, and the same caution applies to erotic hypnosis. The Cleveland Clinic lists rare side effects including dizziness, headaches and increased anxiety. Never listen to trance recordings while driving or doing anything that needs your attention, and choose a hypnotist you trust, live or recorded.

Femdom hypnosis on cam

A live session with a dominant woman lets you negotiate first, hear her respond to you, and stop the moment you want to, which recorded files can't offer. Performers who list ASMR or JOI often enjoy hypnotic-style sessions. The strip at the top of this page shows them live now, and our page on ASMR femdom covers the softer, voice-led side of the same pleasure.

Quick answers

What is femdom hypnosis?

Erotic hypnosis with a dominant woman as the hypnotist: she guides her submissive into a relaxed, focused state with her voice, then uses suggestion as part of the power dynamic, by prior agreement.

What is erotic hypnosis?

In Wikipedia's words, a broad term for erotic activities involving hypnosis, often practised in BDSM relationships and communities. It's also called hypnokink, and it can be live, by call or cam, or recorded.

Can hypnosis make you do things against your will?

Hypnosis isn't mind control, the Cleveland Clinic says. Responses can feel involuntary, though, which is part of the erotic appeal and the reason everything should be negotiated before a session begins.

Does erotic hypnosis work on everyone?

Not in the same way. Researchers estimate only about 10% of people are highly hypnotisable, most are moderately so, and around 10% respond very little. Many people enjoy it as guided fantasy whatever their response.

Are hypno files addictive?

There's no research on that, only anecdotes from people who say they felt hooked on certain recordings. If listening feels compulsive or causes distress, take a break and talk to a professional.

Who should avoid erotic hypnosis?

The NHS says hypnotherapy may not be safe for people with schizophrenia, a history of psychosis or epilepsy. And never listen to trance recordings while driving or doing anything that needs your full attention.

Is erotic hypnosis the same as hypnotherapy?

No. Hypnotherapy is a clinical treatment from trained practitioners for problems such as pain or anxiety. Erotic hypnosis borrows similar techniques purely for pleasure and play, between people who've agreed to it.

What is a hypnotic trigger?

A word, phrase or action agreed during hypnosis that brings a feeling back later. Wikipedia notes post-hypnotic suggestions can be triggered by an action or situation. In play, triggers should be agreed beforehand and easy to remove.

Can I try erotic hypnosis alone?

Many people start with recordings. Choose creators you trust, read descriptions carefully so you know what suggestions are included, skip anything you wouldn't agree to awake, and never listen while driving.
